Creative Writing Workshops
Tuesday 28th February - Tuesday 4th April 2017 10:00-12:00

Do you enjoy writing stories? Or maybe you’ve got a story inside you but haven’t had the chance to get it out? And what about sending your work to magazines that publish fiction and pay for it? Or entering competitions?

This course will cover the techniques of writing short fiction, focusing on marketable stories, and on the 'nuts and bolts' of submission.

From the start, we will do lots of work on growing your plot and finding inspiration for an enthralling tale. We’ll aim for a joint critique of the stories later in the course. And you will submit a story - if you feel it’s ready.

Alison Carter publishes hundreds of stories and serials a year in women’s magazines, plus articles about writing in the trade press. She teaches the craft regularly at The Hawth, at the offices of ‘The People’s Friend’ in Fleet Street, and in courses in Haywards Heath and elsewhere.

Admission is £6.50 per session.

Ukulele Lessons
Range of Saturdays 10:00-10:45am (Beginners) 11:00-11:45am (Improvers)

We are pleased to offer the opportunity to play the instrument of the moment, the ukulele, here at The Hawth Theatre. The course will offer students the chance to learn the basics of the instrument, how to play within a group and enjoy making music, while also learning some of the basic principles of modern music making. Participants must be 16+ in age.

Our instructor, Mark Orchin has over twenty-five years of teaching experience under his belt, and has performed as a guitarist since 1989, recording and releasing five albums in addition to performing at the Hawth Folk Festival for twenty-five consecutive years.

We are offering a taster session on Saturday 29th April 2017 (some instuments provided) for £5.

The course will then take place over the following dates: 6th May, 20th May, 10th June, 1st July, 15th July & 29th July 2017. Admission is £7.50 per lesson.
