Theatre Maintenance Technician

Background 

Parkwood Theatres is a division of leisure support services company Parkwood Community Leisure, which is part of Parkwood Holdings plc. Organisational Structure 

The post holder will report to the Technical & Facilities Manager. 

JOB DESCRIPTION 

Primary Objectives for the Position will be: - 

  • The post holder will have responsibility for carrying out the venue’s planned maintenance programme and in maintaining the building, venue services and equipment to the desired standard. In particular they will assist in a planned programme of inspection and routine maintenance of all plant and equipment, both temporary and permanent and to ensure that all plant areas are maintained in a clean and tidy condition. 
  • To be proactive in maintaining and operating all services at a level that ensures that utility costs (electric, gas & water) are kept to a minimum throughout the year 

The Maintenance Technician will focus day to day on the following tasks: - 

  • Carry out a planned programme of inspection and routine maintenance of all plant and equipment, both temporary and permanent and to ensure that all plant areas are maintained in a clean and tidy condition 
  • Management and overseeing of contractors 
  • Ensuring that appropriate stock levels are maintained and informing the Technical & Facilities Manager of any needs 
  • Ensure that the BMS (Building Management System) is operating at optimal levels to match the venue requirements whilst maintaining the lowest levels of utility usage
  • To ensure adequate levels of stock of all materials, equipment, parts etc to ensure the efficient operation of all maintenance services 
  • To keep abreast of new techniques and operations related to his/her range of duties and responsibilities 
  • To liaise with other service managers within the venue, appropriate Client Officers and service contractors to ensure any maintenance issues are overcome as a priority
  • To assist in the proactive management of the Venue in an efficient and environmentally sustainable way to meet both the Company and Client s objectives in this regard
  • To undertake any other duties as may be required by the Technical & Facilities Manager and the General Manager to ensure that the business objectives of the contract are achieved
  • Cover for cleaners where required (holiday, sickness cover etc) 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT 

TITLE Maintenance Technician 

REPORTING TO Technical & Facilities Manager 

GRADE Operations 

LOCATION The Hazlitt, Maidstone 

REMUNERATION £11.75 per hour (for the right candidate) 

HOURS OF WORK 24-32 hours per week, as per rota. Pattern of work to be agreed and an amount of flexibility will be required.

HOLIDAYS 20 Days Annual Holiday (pro rata) plus Statutory Holidays 

NOTICE PERIOD 1 Month 

THE CANDIDATE 

Qualifications 

GCSE passes in English and Mathematics, NVQ or equivalent qualifications in appropriate areas for the post desirable. Experience is essential. 

Experience 

● Essential; 

Experience of operating and maintaining Building Management systems. General maintenance skills. Knowledge of plant- boilers etc. 

● Desirable; 

Practical experience/qualifications in any/all of; electrical maintenance, plumbing, heating & ventilation, electronics etc 

Personal 

The applicant: 

Should have an independent, positive approach to problem-solving 

Must have a good level of communication skills, both written and spoken

Will have a level of personal fitness that allows full participation in all technical duties 

Must be able to work at heights or in confined spaces within current appropriate legislative guidelines 

Should be able to demonstrate clear identification with all customer requirements 

Will have to work as part of a team, but also on own initiative 

Needs the ability to meet deadlines and prioritise 

Will have numeracy, literacy and IT skills appropriate to the successful fulfillment of the post Must be able to build strong relationships with customers, clients, contractors and others

Grade: 02L2-03L3 

Salary: Up to £11.75 per hour 

Hours of work: 24-32 per week, to suit 

Holiday entitlement: 20 days plus statutory holidays 

Notice period: One month

Purpose Of The Role 

To assist in the building’s maintenance, repair and cleaning. To assist the Technical & Facilities Manager in keeping the building safe & compliant. To undertake and record regular, systematic  checks (water temperatures, fire alarm etc). Locking & unlocking the building. Maintaining health and safety records. Managing contractors. Identifying & fulfilling the building’s maintenance needs. Cleaning cover as required. 

The Candidate 

We are looking for a motivated, conscientious and responsible individual to join the Hazlitt’s team. The successful candidate will help to support the maintenance, repair and cleaning of this busy venue. They will have previous experience of caretaking, (or carrying out general maintenance, repairs, and decorating to a competent level). COSHH experience is also desirable. A high level of customer service is to be maintained at all times, as well as a positive outlook, and the ability to work flexibly, including unsociable hours.
