We are seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and ambitious Youth & Outreach Manager to lead and develop the Hazlitt Institute of Performing Arts. 

 

The Role

As Youth & Outreach Manager, you will be responsible for creating, managing, and delivering a dynamic programme of activities that engage young people and communities across Maidstone and the surrounding area.

You will build strong relationships with schools, community groups, local organisations, and participants, ensuring that the Hazlitt Theatre remains at the heart of cultural and creative activity within the borough.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced arts educator, youth engagement professional, or community arts practitioner who is passionate about using the arts to inspire, educate, and connect people.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, delivery, and development of the Hazlitt Youth Theatre and associated programmes.
  • Design and deliver engaging workshops, projects, and performances for young people of all ages and abilities.
  • Develop outreach initiatives that engage schools, community groups, and underrepresented audiences.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with educational establishments, local authorities, charities, and community organisations.
  • Recruit, support, and manage freelance practitioners, workshop leaders, and volunteers.
  • Oversee safeguarding procedures and ensure the welfare of all participants.
  • Manage project budgets, funding requirements, and reporting processes.
  • Support audience development and participation strategies.
  • Evaluate programmes and measure their impact against organisational objectives.
  • Act as an ambassador for the Hazlitt Theatre within the local community.

 

About You

We are looking for someone who can bring energy, creativity, and strong organisational skills to this role.

You will have:

 

Essential

  • Experience of delivering arts, theatre, education, or community engagement programmes.
  • Experience working with children, young people, and diverse community groups.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong project management and organisational abilities.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding practices and responsibilities.
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • A passion for widening access to the arts and cultural participation.

 

Desirable

  • A qualification in drama, performing arts, education, youth work, or a related field.
  • Experience of managing budgets and funded projects.
  • Experience of working within a theatre, arts venue, or cultural organisation.
  • Knowledge of Arts Council England priorities and community engagement best practice.
  • Understanding of accessible practice and experience working with young people with additional needs or SEN.
