HI Youth Theatre

The Hazlitt Youth Theatre started life in September 1997 as a weekly workshop for 11-18 year olds. Since then, HYT has expanded dramatically and now consists of nearly 200 members, aged 6-18 years. Singing lessons and dance classes have now been added to the schedule plus holiday workshops, summer shows, a yearly musical, and magical Christmas shows.

Each week members attend a workshop dedicated to the learning of different aspects of the theatrical world including: acting, performing arts, improvisation, devising, text work, theatre styles, film, stage combat, mime and a whole lot more besides. In recent times members have devised and produced their own work and learnt the basics of lighting and sound design.

HYT aims to provide an exciting and broad look at the imaginative world of theatre and gives young people a chance to form new friendships, gain self-confidence and most importantly have fun. So if the theatre is something you are interested in, HYT is the place for you.

WHAT OUR MEMBERS SAY

Josh has loved being a member of HYT since he first did the summer 'Play in a Week' 3 years ago. Since then, he's taken part in classes and performances in acting, singing and dance, and has thoroughly enjoyed them all. I firmly believe that his time with HYT was a key support in helping him win a Performing Arts scholarship to his secondary school choice this year and am very grateful to Lorna, Jenny, Laurie and all the others involved in making it such a fantastic environment to develop skills, confidence and friendships. Josh is very excited about finally being old enough to take part in the big October musical this year, and I can't wait to come and watch - I'm sure it'll be amazing, as always!
