Castle Theatre enters a new chapter

One of Wellingborough’s most iconic venues is set to enter into an exciting new chapter.

Representatives from the Borough Council of Wellingborough have officially signed a contract with Parkwood Leisure to manage Castle Theatre from 8 January 2019.

The Leader of Borough Council of Wellingborough, Cllr Martin Griffiths, met with Parkwood Leisure’s, Tony Doherty, on 8 January 2019 to officially start the transition process.

Cllr Martin Griffiths, said: “This is an exciting time for theatre and leisure in Wellingborough. Parkwood Leisure bring to the borough more than 20 years of experience managing leisure facilities across the UK, and together we will be making a number improvements to enhance the customer experience, including seating and lighting upgrades.

“Parkwood Leisure manage a number of theatres across the country, and we look forward to working closely with them to deliver an exciting and diverse theatre programme that residents locally and beyond can enjoy.”

Managing Director of Parkwood Theatres, Tony Doherty, said: “We are thrilled to be working with the Borough Council of Wellingborough to manage Castle Theatre.

“From 8 January, we will be carrying out a transitional programme to make a number of improvements to the theatre, including the front of house and delivering our very own shows. We look forward to meeting residents, hirers and community groups and providing them with a first-class theatre experience.”

General Manager of Castle Theatre, Martin Cleverley, said: "I am extremely excited at the opportunity to work with the venue team at Castle Theatre and look forward to developing a programme that is diverse, engaging and involves community." 

Parkwood Leisure are working collaboratively with the council to improve customer experience, having launched a brand new website in November last year.
