Edinburgh Preview Comedians announced:

Wednesday 24th July Ania Magliano & Bella Hull

Ania Magliano

Ania is a comedian based in London. She’s a triple threat (bisexual, Gen Z, bad at cooking). Her sharp, wry writing combined with her warm conversational performance style make her a ‘glittering new talent’ (the i Paper) of the UK comedy scene.

Her 2023 stand up show, I Can’t Believe You’ve Done This, was nominated for the Edinburgh Comedy Award for Best Show, and sold out its entire Fringe run before the festival began. It received multiple 4 and 5 star reviews, with the Scotsman calling it a ‘beautifully structured show’ and Ania a ‘truly original voice with an impressive set of skills’. The show was included in British Comedy Guide’s ‘Best Reviewed Edinburgh Fringe Shows 2023’ list and was the Number 1 pick in Time Out’s ‘The 11 best comedy shows at Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2023’.

Bella Hull

Bella Hull is a London-based stand-up comedian and writer and one of the UK’s most exciting young comedians.

In 2022, Bella brought her debut hour, Babycakes, to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and subsequently to London’s Soho Theatre to wide acclaim. She regularly plays to sell-out crowds across the UK and her TV appearances include BBC’s Stand Up for Live Comedy, ITV’s The Stand Up Sketch Show and Comedy Central Live. She also co-hosts the Last Night Ever podcast with Jacob Hawley.

Thursday 25th July Nic Sampson & Matt Winning

Nic Sampson

Nic Sampson is a comedian, actor, improviser and writer originally from New Zealand.

As an actor, Nic portrayed popular character D.C. Sam Breen in New Zealand detective drama The Brokenwood Mysteries, which airs in 17 countries including the UK, where it is one of UKTV’s most successful programmes. He has also appeared in the BBC3/HBO Max series Starstruck and featured in films including Netflix’s The Breaker Upperers and Baby, Done, which was executive produced by Taika Waititi. He previously played the Yellow Ranger in Disney’s Power Rangers: Mystic Force.

Nic is one of the co-writers of BBC3/HBO Max’s Starstruck and is a writer on the Internationally Emmy Award-winning short series Inside. Previously, Nic was a core writer and performer on the New Zealand sketch series Funny Girls for TV3. Matt Winning

Dr Matt Winning is a London-based Scottish comedian and environmental economist who performs live climate change comedy.

Matt has a PhD in climate change policy and has been an active researcher, combining his two worlds of comedy and environmental issues in an attempt to help save the planet. In 2021 he published his book Hot Mess which encompasses these two worlds. Adam Kay described it as ““a very funny, important and only moderately terrifying clarion call of a book”. He performed his latest stand-up show of the same name across the UK and was awarded Pick of the Fringe at Bedford Fringe Festival.

Friday 26th July Garrett Millerick & Hugh Davies

Garrett Millerick

A phenomenal stand-up comic, Garrett’s breakout television performance was on the hit US late-night talk show Conan (TBS). His live show Sunflower became one of the best reviewed and most talked about shows of 2018, both at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and subsequently at London’s Soho Theatre. The show saw packed houses for both runs and regularly added shows to cope with demand. The show was Time Out London’s No.1 Comedy Pick for February 2019, and saw Garrett receive a nomination for ‘Breakthrough Act’ at the 2019 Chortle Awards. Garrett has since followed up the show with Smile and Just Trying to Help. The Times called Smile one of the stand out shows of the year and The British Comedy Guide named it one of the best reviewed shows of the year. All three shows transferred to London before touring the UK and have been recorded by 800 Pound Gorilla Records to stream and purchase internationally.

Hugh Davies

Combining his confident on stage presence, dark humour, surreal material and his one-of-kind customised keyboard, Huge has quickly risen to become one the most unique acts in the UK.

After reaching the finals of the Leicester Square Comedian of the Year, Amused Moose New National Comic Award, Hackney Empire New Act of the Year and the Musical Comedy Awards in 2018, Huge debuted his first show ‘The Carpark’ at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2019. A complete sell-out, it received multiple five-star reviews and an Edinburgh Comedy Award Nomination for Best Newcomer. The show transferred to the Soho Theatre and was featured as Time Out’s No.1 comedy show to see. It was given three extra runs following excessive demand and has been filmed by LA based production company 800 Pound Gorilla Records to be released as a special.

Susan Riddell

After winning a place in BBC Writer’s Room Fast and Funny, Susan Riddell went on to write, create and star in several online comedy sketches for BBC Short Stuff which have garnered nearly 3 million views and counting.
